Creativity Ain't Like It Used To Be

Me and the homies were watching old videos the other day....videos around the early 90s to the early 2000s. We went through all people from Dru Hill (will blog about that later) to Blaque (4got about 'em?) to Lil' Mo & Fabolous (blue braids and paper towel bandannas) to Trina (cuz she the baddest b*tch) to Will Smith (Big Willie Style). Good times...good times....*nodding in approval*....yes. But ANYwhoooo...we happen to come to Missy Elliott. First video being...OF COURSE...."The Rain". I use to LIVE for this video!...eyes glued to the tube when it came on. I was so fascinated with her creativity. And it didn't stop there, Missy kept it goin' from "Sock it To Me" to "Get Ya Freak On". People use to put a lot of creativity and imagination in videos. These days, artists are so worried about being artistic, weird, and unable to figure out. Where's the fun and excitement?!!!....

Last night, Hump, my significant other Octavious, and I were pretty darn bored. What do you do when you're bored???....you turn to Twitter. Clowning was present in all of us but for some odd reason, Octavious (@Mademonarch_O) decided to go in on himself. Mind you...we were in a club posted...together (HA!). So we got the privilege of laughing while no one else knew what we were laughing at #FTW. Here are some of @Mademonarch_O's #fails:

Now we all were on some rubbish back in the day. Don't front (Some still are). But some of his ish was mind-boggling <--gotta love that word.

"A CHRISTMAS STORY" IS BY FAR ONE OF MY TOP 5 FAVORITE MOVIES. I FREAKING WATCH IT EVERY YEAR AT LEAST 15 TIMES WHILE ITS ON A FULL DAY. ONE OF MY GOOD FRIENDS FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TXT ME WHEN I GOT OFF WORK LAST NIGHT TELLING ME IT WAS ON, I COULDN'T EVEN TELL YOU HOW FAST I WAS DRIVING HOME JUST TO SEE THE END OF IT. BASICALLY IF YOU HAVEN'T SAW THE MOVIE YOU AIN'T SH*T AND I PROBABLY WOULD F*CK WITH YOU.

If you listen to the Rickey Smiley Morning Show then you know who Darius Bradford is, the guy that never comes in to work.

I recently found him on face book seeing as he is From St. Louis. While looking through is pictures I found this throw back of him when he was younger.

I know other people may not have an appreciation or understanding but I think this outfit is Dope! and I bet he probably though so too since he wore it to "City Lites" lol
I'm not saying anyone would look cool in this today but I can see how it would have been cool then. What do you think?

Man Vimeo has to be the best place for underground/independent video and cinematography talent. While searching some vids I came across this mini series by a director named "D-Nice." Now its always great to see people of color excelling in what they do, but this is just flat out...DOPE! The sound. color, clarity, and creativity is just dope, not to mention the subject matter is take back for a lot of the older hip hop cats.
