Might Don't Make It!

I've worked for about 2 hours on this dress and Haven't sewed a thing! (It's all cut and Pinned together) I got the shape I was going for, but I lost my path when it came to the placement of the zipper and the connection between the Bodice, peplum and then to the skirt.

I thought because I knew how to cut this shape out just by thinking about it that I would be able to sew it easily and make a few more for the show next week. . . It just might not be happening.

Tavi Inspires

13-year-old fashion phenom Tavi has got my gears grinding again. I was cruising through her blog the other day and found a few of her fashion collages. I use to be big on collages....portraying my loves & wants through random a$$ art....Perfect thing for a random a$$ chick! Thanks to Tavi, I am about to get back to what I do. The walls of my room are about to turn into big random splatters of magazine pieces. My mama is going to complain, but at least I will feel good inside...and that's all that matters :)

Peat & Kevin & Stan is a one week exhibition organized by independent curator Wendi Elmore. Featuring the latest work of St. Louis’s own Peat Wollaeger, Kevin McCoy, and Stan Chisholm, each of these artists expands beyond their reputable mediums to enter another dimension of their artistic development. The show is on view throughout the Syndicate gallery spaces from March 12-20, 2010.

Peat Wollaeger (aka stenSOUL) Drawing and painting ever since he was a kid, Peat started doing commercial art in the 90’s and continued for almost a decade, creating urban designs for such clients as Coca-Cola, R. J. Reynolds, Anheuser Busch and some lesser evils. Burned out with the graphic arts scene and not creating any personal art, he moved back to St. Louis to raise his family and started using stencils and spray paint to reproduce his illustrations, now his medium of choice.

Internationally known for his signature EYEZ, raw colorful characters and stencil videos. Peat's work was recently seen at Art Basel Miami (BRKLYN/MIA), Art Beats and Lyrics in DC, Green Day's "the ART of Rock" at Stolen Space Gallery in London and possibly a wall near you.

Kevin McCoy is a mixed media artist born and raised in St. Louis. After receiving his BFA in graphic design and communications he acquired the skills of screen-printing, letterpress design, and mixed media, which has served him existentially in his artistic development.

He has since then exhibited his work in several galleries often blending several interests such as modern art, mixed media, and graphic design to create unique pieces. He also enjoys architectural design and is exploring ways to combine that aesthetic with his newfound passion for typography. Kevin now shares his knowledge as a teacher at St. Louis’s own Craft Alliance.

Stan Chisholm (a.k.a. 18andCounting) is an emerging interdisciplinary artist from St. Louis, Missouri who studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His collages, drawings, and mixed media installations reveal a growing cast of over 700 characters or mascots that serve as a visual lexicon for the moods, personal attributes or feelings explored in his work.

Chisholm’s work has been exhibited at Laumeier Sculpture Park, City Museum (St. Louis), and the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis. His most recent show, ThingsThatNeverReallyHappened is still on view at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago, IL until June 6, 2010.

All in the visuals...

Sometimes while on the computer i'll spend hours upon hours just searching through random sites looking for things that grab my eye or peak my interest. In doing that I may have inadvertently turned myself into one of those people that has the attention span of like a 3 yr old lol. With that said when looking through videos and stuff the visuals have like 20 seconds (or less in most cases) to grab my attention #dontjudgeme.

With this video from Curt@ins, "Night of the Living Dope" it grabbed my attention from the jump, this video has given me hope that the artistic/creative quality that commercial media once had is coming back to the forefront. The mixture of camera play, lighting, and mixed media give an amazing result to very simple video at the root. And by the looks of it,it seems that this video could have been created on a very reasonable budget. Below are some screen shots from it that are parts that caught my attention.

Anytime I see an effect like this it always reminds me of Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat from some reason. Lol, when I was younger I used to think you could do that for real and that you just have to move fast enough, #activeImagination.

The two shots above are probably my favorite parts of the whole video because I'm a huge fan of mixed media/mediums. The combination of illustration with live video is simply put, DOPE! Not only that, but the emotion in the eyes throughout also add some comical value overall...anywhoo if you want to check out the vid for yourself check it out [HERE]

**side note I didn't really listen to the song at first, but umm yeah the lyrics are little well umm...yeah

MAN DOWN!

Well more like computer down, sometime late last night my compadre (my red macbook) had a fatal collision with a glass of water and has not shown any signs of recovery yet. Praying that it comes on for at least a lil while so i can back up all the stuff i had on there that wasn't completely saved yet......*tear*. It is what it is though, hopefully if it comes down to it the mac peoplecan flash my hard drive onto a new one *praying that it works*
Anywhoo on a lighter note enjoy some amazing cinema brought to you by the ways of vimeo, ooooooo ahhhhhhh....i just felt like saying that *shrug* but yeah this video mighty dope. enjoy.

Iamme Atelier

I have the goal of being a Menswear designer, and not just a person who tells other people what looks well, but I want to construct it myself. To get mens shirt and suit construction down I would have to be taught by a person who knows how to do it, or just cultivate my own skills.

Seeing as I'm in school right now for public relations, there is not much drafting and tailoring going on. So I've decided to start with the easy things and work my way up to the complexity of men's garments.
This is the Mannequin I bought today. If you have ever caught a glimpse of my home I have one wall that is blank, with my painting hanging in the middle. The reason things are positioned away from this wall is because I'm slowly building my mini-Atelier here. Hopefully you can see it taking shape. As for the dress on the mannequin its simply two pieces (one around the neck and titays, and one around the body). It once belonged to a friend but it was too tight so it's a stalemate, but for now it makes my living room look really cool until I start making dresses again. {Which will be very soon}
(Above) as you can see I choose a random body that was close to me, they all look the exact same, this secret spot I found is a gold mine for business owners. I will be back for my male mannequin soon.

I'm going to keep posting about my advancements in self teaching. to check out more of my work look at my site : [www.IammeCollective.com]

Alex Cowell

We try to expose the world to you through the MadeMonarchs lens. There have been very few non-fashion photographers posted on this site (by myself).
ALEX COWELL [CLICK]
doesn't seem to take pictures, but display natural emotions, and capture everyday memories that make up most of our life.

That is probably what's captivating, most photographers are trying to catch the once in a life time moments, and in our society that's what every one is reaching towards, and the everyday beauty is lost. When you look at the pictures below I'm sure you memories of those "regular" good times will rush into your head and "bring you joy" (Anita Baker Voice). . . That is excellent photography.

Octavius Gets Tatted

Another Monarch gets tatted. I'm the one that's actually tatted up "like the subway in Harlem" (according to Mr. Nesbitt), but now it looks as if Octavius is tryna get to my level. But I can't even lie....I think he surpassed it with this ONE tattoo he just got.

It took him awhile to come up with the concept, but that's how it's supposed to be when you are about to do something that sticks with you for life (unless you are rich and you can just remove it when you want to). But that's not what regular people do. We THINK! ANYwhoooo...you can't go wrong with having a tattoo connected to somone as special as a mother. Octavius found a quote on the back of his lovely mother's (the late, great Clotie Baker) obituary that had so much meaning. Add a little pizazz and you get an image...he picked a tree. A tree can represent "living". This went perfect with the quote...(SEE BELOW)...

(The Beginning)

(The End)

"Let us rejoice as we prepare for our journey of a rebirth".

Shout out to Self Inflicted Studios for a dope job well done....once again!
